| Some fans who had been following the group since their first album in 1992 pinpoint the release of this single as the exact moment that Barenaked Ladies waved bye bye to their artistic integrity. You see, the song "Brian Wilson" first appeared on BNL's self-released demo which then became huge and Canada and led to the recording of their debut album "Gordon." While followers of The Housemartins were miffed that their favorite band's act had just been lifted by a group of chubby Canadians, BNL was slowly gaining tons of fans by word of mouth. (Remember kids, this was just before the internet took off). Anyway, "Brian Wilson" became a huge favorite from the album, and live shows. Cut to 1998, the band's label convinces the band to cut out the opening stanza of the song, record it on the fly and release it as a single--some 5 years after its initial release. So by this point, old school BNL fans were crying sellout and began leaving in droves only to be replaced by the backwards hat wearing Dave Matthews crowd. Most of these folks felt vindicated for leaving the flab five when "One Week" was released a few months later. |

| Oh well. You know what? It doesn’t, in any way, suck to be me… I’ve just had a boring day that’s all.
Whoohoo! I may even read a comic book, or start the second novel in the Neanderthal Parallax! I’m such a rock star. |
